Sir,
I have the honour to refer to my confidential
despatch of 6th September, 1938, with which I transmitted
copies of the report of a committee appointed to consider anomalies arising out of the introduction of new scales
of salary which are now set out in Appendix VI to the General Orders, and allied questions, and to enquire whether I may shortly expect to receive your decision on
the recommendations of that committee.
2.
It was intended that various changes proposed by the committee should come into operation from 1st January, 1939, and in some cases adjustments dating back to 1st January, 1938, are contingent on the adoption of the committee's report. It would therefore be much appreciated if decisions could be given as early as possible so as to remove the present uncertainty under
which many officers remain. It is observed that the main recommendations of the committee are being followed in the case of various offers of appointment made by the Colonial Office, and if the principal part of the
committee's recommendations is acceptable to you and only
红
THE RIGHT HONOURABLE
